WEEKLY EVENTS: August 16 – August 22, 2013
You know the drill Denver. Go do some of these stuffs before the temperature drops, it’s dark when you are headed to work, it’s dark when you are headed home, you become really pale, you gain 5-7 pounds, and you have an unhealthy relationship with Netflix. BOOM.
Perhaps THE best rooftop in town. Enjoy this beautiful summer night, while listening to Denver musicians play together, even though they have never played together before. WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN?!? I dunno. Show up and find out. $5 cover, free for members of the MCA.
Baby? Ruth? Movie attendees can bring picnics or purchase from on-site gourmet food trucks. The movie will begin at dusk. Snuggle.
Roll, Denver’s largest roller disco party, is back, and this time it’s an 80s Prom. Dig out your old 80s prom gear, buy the largest bottle of extra strength hairspray you can find, and choose your prom date wisely…This is the prom you WISH you had in high school! And if you don’t know how to dance on skates, fear not – Roll is offering FREE skate dance lessons plus FREE admission before 9pm. This event is for ages 21+.
Friday, August 16 & Saturday, August 17, 2013 @ midnight: Dazed and Confused at the Esquire Theater
In 1993 I smoked some shitty weed with a bunch of friends outside of my childhood elementary school and then we went to see Dazed and Confused at the Marple 10 Movie Theater in Springfield, PA. In 1993, slightly stoned, I fucking loved this movie. In 2013 I still love it. Go smoke some weed (shitty or not) and catch one of the midnight screenings of this film at the Esquire. Afterwards there’s gonna be a beer bust at the Moontower. Everybody’s going to be there, you ought to go.
Saturday, August 17, 2013 @ 11am – 7pm: Chipotle Cultivate Festival at City Park
Chimera Domicile and Forest Room 5 present the third annual Taiga Fest, a music and arts festival held at Forest Room 5. The two-day music festival features over 15 bands and local artists as well as complimentary drinks (!) Esme Patterson, Kitty Crimes, Tjutjuna, PRISMWAVES, Men in Burka, Paw Paw, Pacific Pride, Pale Sun, Inner Oceans, Thee Dang Dangs, Two Tone Wolf Pack and more! Advance tickets are $15 for one day and $25 for a two-day pass. The festival begins at 2:00 PM
Do I even have to try and convince you to check this out? Didn’t think so. No cover before 10pm.
There is only one way to say it: the Mile High Soul Club is F-U-N. After you are done stuffing your face with free food and drink in City Park (see above), work those calories off by shaking your thang to the sounds of some 60s & 70s soul, funk, and sweet ass R&B. Ya feel me? Free before 10pm; $3 after – 21+
This pop-up market is the coolest, even if you aren’t permanently riding the vegan train. Bring yo cash and pick-up some fresh pasta, vegan wine, ice-cream, confectionaries, seasoned seitan, tamales, and tons of baked goods. Nothing not vegan, son.
The first time I saw Bit Funk was at the Larimer Lounge. Although the night initially felt a little quiet (it was February), by the end of it, there was a full-on on-stage dance party surrounding this Brooklyn-based indie dance DJ. Give a big middle finger to Monday and join this FREE rooftop party featuring Bit Funk, Option4, Danny Marin, Keepers, Need & Necessity, and Uncle Buck. Fun is guaranteed.
The Great Debate pits teams of non-experts head-to-head, toe-to-toe, and often dumb-and-dumber in lively debates of the inconsequential. Mundane topics are brought to life by ordinary, but opinionated folks. You’re bound to be a flip-flopper after listening to compelling arguments on things that never mattered! This month’s theme? Sand vs. Witches vs. Sandwiches. Box office opens at 7:30pm, the feud starts at 8:00pm. $5 – $7, depending on your luck.
The Fortunate Listener fall series continues with knockout bands Blue Rider and Clouds & Mountains. Come take part in this live recording session at Mercury Cafe. All ages welcome! Still not convinced? Check-out videos from past performances at www.audiovore.us. It’s like Denver Unplugged, yo.
Come party with the cool kids with kegs, legs…and eggs at Pure Brand Communications on Thursday, August 22. Meet some new faces, network with the creative/marketing/advertising community of Denver/Boulder AND enjoy breakfast provided by Snooze. Cha cha cha.
If you’ve been before, you’ll already have your tickets for this event. If you haven’t, click on this link and get your tickets now. Seriously. With unlimited rides, an open bar, DJs and hot people, this very well will be THE best party of the summer. Feelin’ baller? Check-out the VIP option, and enjoy rides to and from the event, as well as free food and before and after parties. (And you may as well take Friday off now.)
