WEEKLY EVENTS: April 25, 2014 – May 1, 2014
Denver. I am headed to Detroit this weekend to shoot some video of a national weatherization conference (hashtag jealous much?) I’ve never been to the Motor City before and am looking forward to it. Friday, April 25 & Saturday, April 26, 2014 @ 9:30pm: Mile High Sci Fi Presents: The Last Action Hero at the SIE FilmCenter
The premise behind Mile High Sci Fi is that a really bad movie is shown and local comedians make fun of it, a la MST300. The humor is clever and inappropriate, with some of the greatest audio gags I’ve ever heard [insert boner noise here]. Come check-out this weekend’s rendition of The Last Action Hero, with special guests Nathan Lund and Sam Talent! 9:30pm both nights; tickets run $7 – $10.

Super funny super team delivers stand-up, sketch comedy, and hilariously polished videos at the Bug. This month’s show is jammed with talent, including special guests Jules Posner, Noah Gardenswartz, Matt Monroe, and headliner Emily Heller. Beautiful babies of Denver, come dance it out at one of Denver’s favorite indie rock dance nights, Lipgloss, featuring DJ Hollow, DJ Tower, and special guest, JD Samson! JD Samson is best know as one-third of punk/electroclash band Le Tigre, and as the leader of band/art collective/remix project, MEN. She has toured world-wide playing clubs & museums and has performed with acts like Peaches & The Gossip. JD is heavily involved in promoting LGBT & feminist causes and is recognized as an important voice for both. Looking for a new environment to practice your yoga skills this spring? Well how about amongst the natural setting of the Denver Botanic Gardens? The Denver Botanic Gardens is now hosting a weekly Vinyasa yoga class, taught by Blake Burger. Vinyasa yoga weaves beautiful movement with challenging postures, and cultivates a sense of peace and calm by the end of each yoga class. All levels are welcome; please bring a mat, a towel and water. $10 members, $12 non-members. Please bring cash if possible but credit cards are also accepted.
Thursday, May 1, 2014 @ 6 – 10pm: Fruit Jar Series – May Day Derby Dance Party at The Sidewinder Tavern
Starting at 6pm, come join the horsey happy hour with $1 tacos, $2 beers, country music in the air, and horse racing on the tube. At 7:30pm there will be some dance lessons, at 8pm old time square dancin’ with Sidecar Stringband, and then at 9:30pm couples dancing with live music. Flamboyant derby hats and pastel-colored attire is encouraged. No experience necessary; no one is required to dance. No dress code or partner needed.
