You guys.  All I really want to write about is the Dear Denver One-Year Anniversary Party.  But I will also include a sampling of other kick ass events happening this week.  But if you decide to do anything, it should be the Dear Denver party.  Seriously.  You should totes go.  It’s like, probably gonna be the best night ever.

A $5 entrance fee gets you access to free beer, free cocktails, pizza, pool times, music, napkins, unicorns, and magic.

Friday, June 6, 2014 @ 6 – 10pm: Share Denver/Etsy Party at Share Denver

Share Denver is so excited to host its first ever Etsy Craft Party!  They’ll be throwing open the doors and sharing their space and materials for a super fun project party!   The theme of the party is “recapture” – participants will be embellishing images with simple creative techniques, bringing new meaning to their photographs.  The fun starts at 6pm and lasts until guests have crafted and created to their heart’s content!  Grab your spot for $5, which covers supplies…and cheap beer will be provided!  #craftparty #parkhill #sharedenver

Friday, June 6, 2014 @ 7pm: The Life and Times of Paul the Psychic Octopus at SIE FilmCenter

Paul the Psychic Octopus successfully predicted eight out of eight football matches during the 2010 soccer World Cup.  At the height of his popularity, he had a talent agent, a smartphone app, and a record deal.  Nations squabbled over claims to his birthplace, and, after Paul’s death, Ireland jumped in to train a successor, while operators of Sea Life anointed Paul II to replace him.  This screening is part of the Denver Film Society’s World Football Film Festival.  Director Alexandre O. Phillipe and Producer Robert Muratore will be in-person.  Tickets run $7 – $10.

Friday, June 6, 2014 @ 8:30 – 10:30pm: Sexpot Comedy Presents: Comics Against Civility Round 4 with The Grawlix at the Oriental Theater

If you are a fan of Cards Against Humanity, then this is a show for you.  Round 4 of Comics Against Civility brings The Grawlix boys and the ubiquitous Andy Juett to The Oriental Theater for the final round of this contest.  In this comedy game show, jokesters abandon their tested material for a set of cards with their darkest, most hilarious thoughts.  Winning answers are based on audience reaction, so it’s recommended that you have hands, feet, and/or a mouth.  Audience members win prizes by submitting questions that the contestants will answer during the show.  This is a fun event; come check it out.  FREE.

Denver!  You’ve already hit up a handful of First Friday events and are just buzzed up enough to start dancing…now what?  Cue Guilty Pleasures – a party dedicated to cheesy awesome dance jams.  (This party may very well be my favorite in town – if you haven’t been, what the f*#k are you waiting for?)  When in doubt, grind it out.  $5 suggested donation.  PLUS – catch Guilty Pleasures tomorrow night as well at the Dear Denver One-Year Anniversary Party!

The largest of all summer festivals in Denver, the People’s Fair began in 1971 and is sponsored by the Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods.  The festival features arts and crafts, live music, and food and drink vendors.  The fair is famous for bringing together a diverse population to celebrate community and enjoy the start to the summer festival season.  The Capitol Hill People’s Fair is happening from 10am – 8pm on Saturday, and from 10am – 7pm on Sunday.  FREE.

Le Jardin Secret is not your average summer market.  At this French-inspired chefs’ market, foodies can shop for dairy, meat, bread, produce and other goods – all with a mimosa in hand.  Think perfect tomatoes, French cheeses, grassfed tenderloins, and artisanal bread.  Free parking is available on the top levels of the Larimer Square Garage (14th and Market Streets) during market hours to the first 40 Le Jardin Secret customers.  Customers must ask for a validation pass from the Mile High Business Alliance representative at the Le Jardin Secret welcome booth.  FREE.

Monday, June 9, 2014 @ 5 – 7:30pm: Beginning Knitting and Crochet at Denver Public Library (DPL) – Central

Every Monday night, DPL will accept walk-in students who’d like to learn how to knit or crochet.  Their teacher will host up to six beginning students in either discipline, first-come, first-served.  No materials, tools, nor registration needed for this introductory workshop and students are welcome to return on successive Monday nights until they are capable of knitting/crocheting on their own.  FREE.

Tuesday, June 10, 2014 @ 12:15pm: Brown Bag Mysteries – Storytime for Adults at the Denver Public Library (DPL) – Central

Grab some grub at Civic Center Eats or bring your own brown bag from home then join DPL for lunch and an adult storytime every Tuesday in the Level 7 Vida Ellison Gallery, at the Central Library.  Each week, they’ll read some of the greatest short stories, old and new – stories of suspense, thrills, and dark humor.  Readings will begin at 12:15pm and will last approximately 30 minutes, so guests have time to enjoy their lunch and a story without taking too much time from their j-o-b.  Plus, Whole Foods Market will provide a variety of sweet desserts for each event.  Come break-up your day people!  FREE.

The Greater Than Social Club is THE place to be on the second Tuesday of every month.  Combining music and comedy in Lannie’s basement cabaret setting, this event will make you straight-up pumped to be a Denverite.  This month’s line-up includes comedy by Elliot Woolsey and Aaron Urist, music by Ned Garthe Explosion and Safe Boating is No Accident, and hosting services provided by Kristin Rand.  Annnnnnnd, the entire show will be over by 10pm, so quit your hemming and hawing and just buy a ticket already, geez.  $5.

Looking for a new environment to practice your yoga skills this spring?  Well how about amongst the natural setting of the Denver Botanic Gardens?  The Denver Botanic Gardens is now hosting a weekly Vinyasa yoga class, taught by Blake Burger.  Vinyasa yoga weaves beautiful movement with challenging postures, and cultivates a sense of peace and calm by the end of each yoga class.  All levels are welcome; please bring a mat, a towel, and water.  $10 members, $12 non-members.  Please bring cash if possible but credit cards are also accepted.
