Denver. There are weekends when it seems like not much is going on, and then there are weekends when you want to take a bunch of meth just to try to do it all (totally kidding about the meth), but this weekend is a meth weekend. Friday, November 21, 2014 @ 11am – 9pm: Opening Day of the Denver Christkindl Market at Skyline Park
European quaintness in the heart of BroDo? Yes, it’s true. Skyline Park has once again been transformed into a traditional German Christmas Market. German music, big beers, a heated beer tent, Gluhwein, soft pretzels, Christmas knickknacks, and twinkling lights will round out this festive experience. Friday, November 21, 2014 @ 5 – 8pm: Mercado de Navidad at Museo de las Americas
Stop by this annual celebration at the Museo for your holiday gifts, unique finds, and one of a kind art pieces. Suerte Tequila will be making cocktails and the Museo will provide beer and wine so you can sip, browse, and buy, all while enjoying the backdrop of El Brindis REMIXED exhibit! FREE.
Friday, November 21, 2014 @ 7 – 10pm: Fresh Jazz and Crisp Vinyl Series at the Dikeou Pop-Up: Colfax
The Dikeou Collection’s ninth installment of the Fresh Jazz and Crisp Vinyl Series will feature a very special performance by The Aakash Mittal Quartet. Mark Sink, photographer extraordinaire, will be spinning rare & classic records from the Collection’s extensive Vinyl Archive. Mittal and his band will play at 8pm. This event is FREE and open to the public; light refreshments will be provided.
Friday, November 21, 2014 @ 9pm – 2am: Roll: Black Light Roller Rave at the Exdo Event Center
Roll is a monthly-themed roller skating party in the EXDO Event Center, complete with skate rental, mind-blowing audio and visuals, and of course, sippy cup drinks for one helluva party! Tonight’s theme is Black Light Roller Rave…so don your brightest whites and prepare for a night filled with skating, drinking, dancing, karaoke, and ping-pong! Friday, November 21, 2014 @ 10pm: Reel Social Club Arcade Party at the McNichols Civic Center Building
Last year’s Reel Social Club‘s home invasion-themed film festival bash was literally one of the best events I have ever attended in Denver. And this year looks just as promising: free drinks, bites, DJs, dancing, hott filmmakers, Oh Heck Yeah interactive games, and old-school arcade games rounds out what is sure to be an epic night. And if you attend the preceding screening of I Am a Knife With Legs, you’ll have something to blah blah blah about with everyone else. DO IT. Tickets start at $25; the memories are free.
Saturday, November 22 & Sunday, November 23, 2014: The Sugar Plum Bazaar at the McNichols Civic Center Building
Voted Best of Westword, the Sugar Plum Bazaar takes place in the heart of Denver at the McNichols Building. Here you will find a special treasure for everyone on your list…maybe even yourself. Over 75 of the best local artisans and merchants will creatively display their wares in this beautiful historic building. Partake in fare from food trucks, beverages, wine, beer and cocktails while you shop. The event is handicap accessible and strollers are allowed. Parking is recommended at the Denver Post building one block away at 1516 Cleveland Place for a $5 flat rate. Bazaar is open on Saturday from 10am – 7pm and Sunday from 10am – 4pm. FREE.
Saturday, November 22, 2014 @ 1:30pm – 4:30pm: Net Neutrality Party at the Denver Central Library
In this multi-layered event, you’ll have an opportunity to explore net neutrality and how it impacts the sharing of information on the internet. There will be lots of great interactive stations to check out and even snacks to keep the good times rolling. The continuous stations include green screen videos that you’ll make and post on Vine, a game that illustrates the complexities and pitfalls of the worldwide web, a looped screening of the film Warriors of the Net, and a traceroute activity that shows just how far-flung the net can be. Know your internet, grow your mind, and meet more geeks at this fun event. FREE and open to the public.
Saturday, November 22, 2014 @ 2 – 4pm: Damak to Denver at the Colorado Photographic Arts Center
Damak to Denver features photographs and stories by Bhutanese refugees of their last days in a refugee camp, their journey to the United States, and their first days in Colorado. The opening reception will be a time to welcome the participants to Colorado and hear their stories firsthand. FREE.
Saturday, November 22, 2014 @ 4 – 8pm: Inaugural Holiday Affair at Jefferson Square
With twinkling lights, strolling carolers, and plenty of hot cocoa, the businesses of Jefferson Square are bringing some holiday cheer to Denver. Event to also feature food trucks, crafts, live jazz, photos with Santa, and prizes #hohoho

This event is the first of its kind. Shit Stories (for real, this is a thing) will be using footage shot during this live event for their TV series. They’re encouraging people to share (embellish, have fun with it!) their funniest stories of shitting themselves. There will also be a DJ, prizes, and happy hour specials. It should be a fun, outrageous, and crazy ride. FREE.

I’ve been hearing some real good things about this event. Weird Touch is a new all-vinyl dance party collaboration between renowned DJs Tyler Snow, Fancy Matthew, and Shannon von Kelly. “Over the last year, we’ve been testing the waters of Denver’s dance appetite. Apparently, what’s turning us on musically is what’s turning on lots of other Denverites.” Expect an eclectic, yet cohesive mix of darkly-tinged nu-disco, indie dance, and weird house. Only $5 to dance dance dance.

Held the last Monday of every month, Freak Train has remained Denver’s most unique live entertainment experience for more than 13 years. Hosted by the lovely and talented GerRee Henshaw, Freak Train showcases area performers from rank amateurs to seasoned pros, as they take the stage for five minutes. Each performer or group gets to do pretty much anything they want to do. Well, almost. It might be the funniest five minutes of your life. It might not. Either way, it’s worth experiencing. $5 cover, includes FREE keg beer. Yep.
