Denver! My fingertips have literally [not really] been worn down to bloody nubs from trying to share all of the cool events this week…there is so much to do! Moms, mint juleps, plants, pop-up markets, rooftop concerts, dance parties, short films, storytelling, and pregnancy scares. Friday, May 6 & Saturday, May 7, 2016: Spring Plant Sale at Denver Botanic Gardens
Add some color to your home the easy way with the Denver Botanic Gardens’ annual plant sale. With more than 10 different plant divisions (veggies, annuals, perennials, etc.) offering quality flora and expert advice, this sale is the best way to start your spring gardening season. Please bring your own wagons, carts, wheelbarrows, or recycled boxes to transport plants. Sale runs from 8am – 5pm each day. FREE.
Friday, May 6 & Saturday, May 7, 2016: Grease: The Musical at North High School
I had the privilege of attending the opening night of Grease last night with my sister, my two nephews, and my Chilean arm candy. To say it was endearing would be an understatement; you seriously could not slap the smiles off of our faces. If you are looking for something a little different/nostalgic to do this weekend, I would definitely consider this event. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased either online or at the door. Shows start at 7pm on Friday and 6pm on Saturday. Support your local schools!
Friday, May 6 & Saturday, May 7, 2016: RSC Shorts Fest at the Sie FilmCenter
The short film format allows greater freedom for fresh voices to share their creativity. This inaugural festival will feature music videos, narratives, documentaries, animation, genre films, webisodes, and festive events spanning the two days. Tickets run $12 -$15 per shorts package; $30 – $40 for an all-access pass.
Friday, May 6 – Sunday, May 8, 2016: TheBigWonderful at Sustainability Park
It’s back! TheBigWonderful returns to bring you another season of live music, local food, craft beer + cocktails, beach volleyball, yard games, and even a play areas for the kiddos. And this year, it is bigger AND better! This weekend’s three-day opening celebration includes 75+ vendors, live music, a beer garden, derby flair, and a celebration of moms. Friday, May 6, 2016 @ 5 – 7pm: Cone Zone Prints, A Collection from the 2016 RMCAD Steamroller Print Event at 40 West Arts District
Celebrate the art of printmaking at 40 West Arts Gallery this Friday at the opening reception of Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design’s Steamroller Print event. This one-week show features large-scale works created by using a two-ton steamroller, woodcut printing blocks, and fabric. Join them as they kick-off the weekend with art, FREE beer + wine, and community! No cover.

It’s the first Friday of the month, which means… Pussy Bros— Christie Buchele, Janae Burris, Rachel Weeks, and Jordan Wieleba—are putting on another awesome show! Featuring some of the funniest cats in town, this showcase will be nothing short of a (pussy) riot. Don’t miss Denver Comedy Champion and headliner Nathan Lund along with local crushers, Zac Maas and Timmi Lasley. The show is FREE (donations are accepted), and the laughs will be huge.
Friday, May 6, 2016 @ 9pm: Lipgloss: A Tribute to the Cure at Bar Standard
Join the crew at Lipgloss as they celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Cure’s singles collection, Standing On A Beach. They’ll be playing lots of The Cure, their contemporaries, and music influenced by them. They’ll also be giving away three pairs of tickets to see their June 5th show in Denver, a couple of framed posters, Standing On A Beach on vinyl, and more! No cover before 10pm, $5 afterwards.

The Dikeou Collection’s Family Saturday Workshops are a great way for people of all ages to learn more about contemporary art and experiment with new creative processes. This month’s project is an abstract art series inspired by the work of Joshua Abelow. This workshop is FREE to all attendees; drop-in anytime. Light refreshments will be provided.
