Weekly Events: June 20 – June 26, 2013
This weekend I’ll be headed to Wildwood, New Jersey (woot!) for a family gathering with 90 of my closest relatives (most of whom I won’t know). Therefore in my absence, there will be 14.5 beers, 2 vodka tonics (tall), 2 bloody marys, 2 slices of Pizza Alla Vodka from Sliceworks and 7 ibuprofens for the rest of y’all to consume. You should also check-out some of these events.
Thursday, June 20, 2013, doors at 5pm, music at sunset: Summer Supper + Song at the Infinite Monkey Theorem
Good effing luck attending all of the cool stuff that is happening tonight – however, first thing popping off is Summer Supper + Song on the patio of the Infinite Monkey Theorem. Grab a glass of red, white, rose or cider and some yummy Mexican grub from the Comida food truck and just kick it like only you know how. South Of France will be providing the soundtrack to your night.

Raise the Roof at the SIE FilmCenter tonight
Thursday, June 20, 2013, doors at 6pm, music at 7pm: Raise the Roof at SIE FilmCenter
Combining music, comedy, beer, food, increased altitude and sweet ass views, the Denver Film Society’s Raise the Roof parties are a summertime must. There is no cover and attendees will be given a buy–one-get-one free movie ticket, that they can use upon a return visit to the film center. Held on top of the film center parking garage, this week’s entertainment includes Dragondeer, Varlet and comedian Jodee Champion.
Thursday, June 20, 2013 @ 8pm: The Narrators at the Deer Pile
Tonight’s theme for this monthly storytelling event is “Insults and Injuries”. If you haven’t been to the Narrators yet, it is gold. It’s essentially like This American Life unfolding right in front of your beautifully round, smiling, expecting face. Plus there is cheap canned beer. One of the best things to do in Denver, hands down.
Thursday, June 20, 2013 @ 8:20pm: PechaKucha at Cactus
If you’ve never heard of PechaKucha, they are “informal and fun gatherings where creative people get together and share their ideas, works, thoughts, holiday snaps — just about anything, really — in the PechaKucha 20×20 format- 20 images that advance every 20 seconds.” However this time, in preparation of their Bike From Work bash next Monday (see below), the topics of creativity and bikes will be explored. Boulder Beer will be on tap.
Friday, June 21, 2013 @ 2 – 10pm: City Beautiful 2.0 Closing Party at the McNichols Civic Center Building
Lawn games, picnicking, art and video mapping are just some of the events taking place on the longest day of the year at this hip historic venue…and for free!
Friday, June 21, 2013 @ 5 – 9pm: Hats Off to Dr. Seuss! at Clayton Lane Fine Arts
Peep Dr. Seuss’ never-before-seen hat collection at this opening night reception in the Cherry Creek neighborhood. Also on display, Dr. Seuss’ secret art collection – sounds so rare and exotic and hip!

Beer + Ice-cream = Something
Saturday, June 22, 2013 @ 12 – 4pm: An Adult Ice Cream Social at Denver Beer Co.
Little Man Ice Cream and Denver Beer Co. are teaming up to present an Adult Ice Cream Social. Sample delicious pairings such as Barleywine with Honey Banana Ice Cream and Graham Cracker Porter with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. I am not sure how it’s gonna turn out, but I wish I were around to try.
Sunday, June 23, 2013 @ 6:30pm: 5th Annual Blessing of the Bicycles at 2201 Dexter Street
Come get your bike blessed (???) and then join in for a short ride around Park Hill followed by pizza, red velvet cake and Fat Tire ale. Sounds like a pretty sweet way to end the weekend to me.
Tuesday, June 25, 2013 @ 8pm: Open Screen Night at the Oriental Theater
Think of Open Screen Night as a monthly open mic night for short-form video. Submit a piece or simply bear witness to the work of talented local artists, all the while participating in Denver’s thriving multimedia production community!
Tuesday, June 25, 2013 @ 8pm: Space in your Face! at the Deer Pile
This month’s topic: Uranus and other large gassy objects. Join local astrobiologists for a night of discussion, skits, space raps, a quiz (with prizes) and the requisite Uranus jokes.
Wednesday, June 26, 2013 @ 5 – 9pm: 5th Annual Bike From Work Bash at Cactus
The 5th annual Cactus Bike From Work Bash presented by Primal is a party for bikes and their people. This event is free and will feature Boulder Beer, food, entertainment and a chance to party with Denver’s diverse bike community while supporting the work of BikeDenver. Be there or be in your car stuck in traffic.
