WEEKLY EVENTS: December 27, 2013 – January 2, 2014
I tend to make resolutions each year, not so much to try and “fix” myself, but more so to identify concrete goals to work towards. As I get older, the years seem to pass faster and faster, and I have realised I need to be more intentional about the things I want to have/create in my life. If not, I’ll be 80-years old before I know it and still without an on-screen kiss with Ryan Gosling! (JK. Although I wouldn’t mind giving him a hug in some hipster bar.)
Here are some of my goals. Please leave a comment if you have a big one you’d like to share or if you want to steal one of mine. And happy 2014!
at least 2 stress-free vacations (via airplane)
put my apartment on Airbnb
run at least 3 races
visit 2 new cities
pay off credit cards (for reals)
continue blogging at least once a week
eat more vegetables
believe in love
Peep the list below for stuff to do in town and as always, check-out Westword’s 10 things to do for $10 in Denver blog for free/low-cost events this weekend.
2 nights. 2 DJs. Many bands. Special guests. Several drinks. Multiple holidays. Numerous dance styles. Wild lighting. Wicked sound. Prescient tarot cards. LET’S MIX IT UP, PEOPLE.
Friday’s show: You Me and Apollo + Ark Life (electric) + Abe Abraham & the Pink Sky (feat. Stelth Ulvang, Macon L. Terry, Tyler Despres) + DJ Jordan Wyatt (Prism Waves)
Saturday’s show: The Pirate Signal + Miss America by Wheary + Ark Life (acoustic w/ friends, feat. Kyle James Hauser) + Soulfax DJ Rey Rogé (The Blue Rider)
Both nights: Doors + DJs @ 8pm, live music @ 9pm. All ages welcome; $10 each night.
The premise behind Mile High Sci Fi is that a really bad movie is shown and local comedians make fun of it, a la MST300. The humor is clever and inappropriate, with some of the greatest audio gags [insert boner noise here] I’ve ever heard. Come check-out this weekend’s rendition of White House Down! 9:30pm both nights; tickets run $10 – $12.
Before 2013 comes to a close, come dance it out with Lipgloss founder boyhollow, resident DJ Tower, and special guest Mike Deez. $5 cover after 10pm, free before.
Super funny super team delivers stand-up, sketch comedy, and hilariously polished videos at the Bug. This month’s post-Christmaspalooza spectacular features special guests Emily Maya Mills, Rob Gleeson, Dan Soder, and headliner Christian Duguay. Come laugh away all of your family holiday drama. Doors at 10; 10 bucks to get in.
Saturday, December 28, 2013, doors at 8pm: The Big Get Even, Talk All Night, Andrew Orvedahl & Robert Rutherford at the Deer Pile
The name says it all: music, laughs, and a big old-fashioned dance party. (Okay, that part isn’t in the title, but it is on the poster.)

Held the last Monday of every month, Freak Train has remained Denver’s most unique live entertainment experience for more than 13 years. Freak Train showcases area performers from rank amateurs to seasoned pros, as they take the stage for five minutes. Each performer or group gets to do pretty much anything they want to do. Well, almost. It might be the funniest five minutes of your life. Might not. Either way, it’s worth experiencing. This month’s show will be hosted by Deacon Gray; $5 cover, includes free keg beer. Yep.
