Friday, July 8 – July 15, 2016: Denver Design Week
While tonight’s Lauch Party is officially sold out, there are still plenty of tours, workshops, and panels to take advantage of during this inaugural week-long event. With topics ranging from driverless cars, clean energy technologies, and branding in craft beer, there is something for everyone.
Come enjoy a classic movie under the stars. Admission is $5 per person; children 6 and under are free. Guests can enjoy live music before the film, which will begin at dusk. Food and drink will be available for purchase and all proceeds from concession sales support the continued restoration of the historic theatre.
A $10 entrance fee gets you access to free beer, free cocktails, pool times, a DJ set by Fancy Matthew, unicorns + magic. Arepas House food truck will also be on site, serving up the grub.

Around the world, cities are temporarily closing busy streets for a day of free, healthy activities that promote community. Meet in the Street is a program launched by the Downtown Denver Business Improvement District that encourages people to get outside and walk, bike, eat, and enjoy the 16th Street Mall in a new and different way. This week’s event will feature yoga, live music, lucha libre, ArtBlast!, expanded patio seating, a silent disco, and a whole slew of activities for kids. FREE.
The Horseshoe Craft & Flea Market is a seasonal, open-air market where emerging and experienced artists, crafters, and antique/vintage collectors can sell their wares and meet their customers. This season’s market includes some of Denver’s best crafters and vintage collectors, unique fashion finds, food trucks, live music, and a collaborative local beer & spirits fest across the street at Local 46. The Denver Film Society is proud to launch family programming with a retrospective of films written by or based on novels by beloved author, Roald Dahl. Tickets are $5 (children under 6 are free) and admission includes an all-you-can-eat cereal bar!
Cat lovers of all ages are invited to a day of feline fun with the Dumb Friends League, where they’ll meet dozens of adoptable cats and kittens (cats 1 year + up are just $10!), enjoy clicker-training demonstrations, photo booths, activities for kids, pet behavior and veterinary advice from experts, food, music, and shopping at the outdoor “Meow Market.” FREE.

The Dikeou Collection’s Family Saturday Workshops are a great way for people of all ages to learn more about contemporary art and experiment with new creative processes. This month’s project is inspired by the work of Chris Johanson. Participants in this workshop will create their own miniature-sized mountains and fortresses out of paper mache + wood and after, paint quotes on their creation from a selection of provided literature. This workshop is FREE to all attendees; drop-in anytime. Light refreshments will be provided.

Drawing Never Dies will survey the range of drawing taking place today. Approaches may span from minimal to maximal, meticulous to messy, monumental to miniature. FREE.

Raconteur Denver combines the joy of exploring new locations, meeting new people, and hearing stories from Denver’s vast communities. Three pre-selected storytellers get the night moving but then the stage opens up to YOU! Audience members will have two minutes each to share their stories on the selected topic. Live at Light Rail performances will take place most Wednesdays during the warmer months and will showcase local bands, choirs, ensembles, and school groups, who will greet light rail patrons with a variety of creative performances. The program will draw from a range of live performers of all ages and specialties, from high school ensembles and undergrad percussionists to adult choir groups and drum circles.
Chill! Ratio Comedy presents a very special night of laughter and jubilation, celebrating everyone’s favorite rock & roll band, 311. There will be jokes, there will be drama, there will be dancing, and there will be lots of 311. Come party! FREE.
B-Side Music Thursday is a live music series where guests can enjoy an intimate rooftop performance by Denver’s top indie musicians, craft cocktail in hand. This intimate tasting experience, in the form of a vibrant party, highlights the city’s best culinary talent, accompanied by craft beers, craft cocktails, regional wine, and a variety of musical entertainment. Set in 1978, Detroit Rock City follows four teenagers who embark on a wild adventure to attend a KISS concert. Driven by their unwavering passion to experience their favorite legendary rock group live, the teens will stop at nothing to scam their way into the sold-out show.
