Friday, January 2, 2015 @ 6 – 8pm: Lindy Hop & Libations at the Infinite Monkey Theorem
Swingin’ Denver and the Infinite Monkey Theorem will be offering a night of FREE swing dance lessons, live music from Joe Smith and the Spicy Pickles Jazz Band, pasta bites, and vino set against the backdrop of RiNo’s First Friday Art Walk. Come learn some steps while you have some sips at Denver’s hippest urban winery. No cover.
Friday, January 2, 2015, doors at 7pm, show at 8pm: Open Music Sessions with Chris Demuke at Denver Open Media (DOM)
This First Friday visit YOUR community access television station for a live studio performance by Chris Demuke and a joke-telling set by Ian Douglas Terry. Additionally, there will be FREE food from Illegal Pete’s and cheap drinks. This event is FREE and open to the public.

Saturday, January 3, 2015 @ 2pm: Los Angeles Plays Itself at the SIE FilmCenter
One screening only! CalArts professor Thom Andersen directs the digital video essay, Los Angeles Plays Itself, titled after a gay porn classic by Fred Halsted. Using clips from well-known mainstream movies to lesser-known obscurities, Andersen explores the myths and realities of the city as produced by Hollywood and as viewed by contemporary philosophy. I watch a lot of movies and many of them I categorize as, “you can probably wait for it on Netflix”. A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night however, definitely feels like something special. Although musicals have been a permanent part of the lexicon since near the beginning of cinema, amongst film buffs and cinephiles the genre often gets generalized and left out in the cold. In this new film series, participants will watch a wide variety of musicals from a few different countries, highlighting how the musical evolves to fit a culture’s needs at the time.
