Friday, January 30, 2015 @ 6 – 8pm: Black Sheep Fridays at the MCA Denver

Mixing hip with the weird, Black Sheep Fridays runs weekly January 23 to March 27, from 6 – 8pm in the MCA Café.  Visitors can stop by anytime during the evening to experience the fun (happy hour runs from 5 – 7pm).  This week’s theme is Extra-Terrariums.  Make your own alien-inspired terrariums, with Baker neighborhood favorite, Ironwood.  Free for members, $5 for regular people.

Friday, January 30, 2015 @ 9pm – 2am: Lipgloss at the Beauty Bar

Beautiful babies of Denver, come dance it out at one of Denver’s favorite indie rock dance nights, featuring Hollow and DJ Tower.  Only $5 for a whole lotta magic.  Life is short; go to Lipgloss.

Saturday, January 31, 2015 @ 1 – 3pm: The “Why-The-Hell-Are-We-So-Busy?” Festival at the McNichols Civic Center Building

Can we all just chill out for a second here?  Sheesh.  Between work, school, family, soccer practice, play dates, and Twitter, there just doesn’t seem to be any free time, ya now?  But today, you’ll get the chance to let it all hang out with an all-skill levels yoga class, a ridiculous improvised exercise workout, life-sized video games, and a bunch of giant board games.  Then you’ll get refreshed with cookies, KIND energy bars, and locally-produced kombucha!  Afterwards, they’ll be a conversation about why we’re all so damn busy and what we can do about it.  Bring the whole fam!  FREE.

Saturday, January 31, 2015 @ 2pm: Tea Party at The Gnome’s Nook

Bring your favorite tea cup to sit with Tabitha Dial, a practiced Tarot & Tea Leaf Reader.  Sip on delicious small batch teas in the canopy while Tabitha introduces everyone to the ancient art of tea leaf reading.  Children and their adults can create and take home their own tea story using the tea symbols they will learn in class.  Introduction class from 2 – 3pm; $15 adults/$5 for kids 12 & under.  Private readings from 3 – 4:30pm; $10 for 10 minutes.

Bring in your skis or snowboard on Saturday, January 31st from 4 – 8pm and get a ski wax and a pint for $15.  This includes a wax and a light edge tune and a pint of house beer.  Cheers!

For the cold month of February, Helikon Gallery will warm things up with a fire-themed group show: “spark & ruin: anatomy of a flame.”  Curated by 1of1 Magazine, the exhibition will feature works by 13 artists that are inspired by the temporary beauty and/or irreversible destruction of fire, treated either literally or figuratively.  FREE.
